Christian Academy of Louisville High School Reviews

I have had one son graduate, and still have one there. This school is a breath of fresh air, compared to the public schools my children previously attended. High quality education with a Christian atmosphere. Everyone is friendly from students to staff. The school is extremely clean and well maintained. There are plenty of activities in many fields of interest. My children have had wonderful, polite, well mannered friends at this school. No school is perfect but this one is close.

I love cal and would never change. I have been taught so many things from intellectually to morally

CAL is the best place ever for my family! A solid Christian world-view with excellence in academics, athletics, arts and a full range of extra-curricular activities abound! CAL is the place to be in Louisville!

Cal is a great school It's one of the top in Kentucky private and public schools. But most people who attend here are wealthier than the rest of the community and that makes it hard for with kids who come from a less wealthy family to adjust. The academics are great, the school is safe, and the teachers are nice.

I have three children in the school. We are very pleased with the quality of academics and the Christian world view in the elementary school overall. This is our first year with one child in middle school. It is very different from the elementary and I am still evaluating and developing my opinion about it. It seems less accademically rigorous to me. My children's classes (as a whole grade) have differing personalities and some are sweeter and more cooperative than other classes. This was true during my educational experience as well. I have not seen a big turnover of teachers in the elementary. There is a huge amount of parent involvement. Tricia Chandler

Both of my children graduated from CAL. They received a quality education, scored highly on their SAT and ACT tests, earned college scholarships and are successful in their college studies. By the time my son graduated he was fluent in Spanish and prepared to take 300 level courses. I was pleased when my children found friends whose parents shared the same values as my wife and I have. Through chapels, bible studies and mission trips my children grew spiritually. The message they were taught at school did not conflict with the values and faith we were attempting to teach them at home. Certainly we had our disappointments. CAL is run by people and people make mistakes. It was my experience that the administration always tried to act in the best interest of the students.

My daughter attended this school and what a joke they were not 'Christian' in any sense of the word. All they were interested in was money. Very poor education experience

Firstly, I am not a parent, but I have been going to Christian Academy (CAL) for over a decade now, so I'd like to think of myself as an authority. When I first enrolled there was about 300 in the entire school, now there are 300 in any two given classes. With this comes growing pains. The focus has really shifted more from the individual to the bottom line. The admissions policy is now extrememly lax, and while I certainly do not expect every student to be a Christian, they really will let anybody with enough money in. Class sizes have also steadily increased. While there was once a limit of 20 in each class, there now appears to be no limit as I have classes with 27 other people. If you're thinking about sending your kid to CAL, go ahead, but expect the chasm between quality and cost grow.

Smoking & alcohol use by students and even parents is almost nonexistent: very high quality living environment. But...Little after-school help from teachers unless for extra pay. Teachers are allowed to have their own children in their classes, and to babysit/help-with-homework for extra pay their own students. Arbitrary fund raising rules. Closed-door policy of teachers and principal. Advanced planning & plans communications need improvement. Several teachers are not educated with majors in the core subjects they teach. Maybe a high turnover of teachers. Measurable quality criteria is not always measured, much less tracked & reported. While bible is emphasized by mandatory full-period class each day, not enough emphasis on integrity, fairness, and honesty to teachers & staff. The Board of Directors & their existence, selection criteria, and accomplishments are not readily disclosed to those who finance the school.
