North Oldham High School Reviews

NOHS Mustangs: You've come so far in such a short time! A 'Great Schools' Rating, an athletic stadium to be proud of, an auditorium (WooHoo!!) that's almost done - and a beautiful media center... Now if we could just get those computers for that computer lab...

NOHS is really a fun school, and they do try and make our learning experience as amazing as possible.

There are few places that feel more like my home than NOHS. When I was going there I was at school more than I was at home. I was involved in many extra-curricular activities and all of the teachers are amazingly helpful and friendly. I even liked the teachers of the subjects I hate. NOHS is a great school and having attended OCHS my freshman year, I realize how much better North is. I graduated in 2006, when a bunch of political drama was going on, but I still love this school. Great academics, and a great, if not small, arts program make this school everything I wanted. It's not as if I had much choice in going here, but I'm glad this was my alma mater.

I am a parent of four students one of which is graduating this week. All of my students are involved in sports and also make great grades due to the fantastic staff that goes the extra mile for them at North. It has been really rough on our student body the last two year because of construction but that is almost over and we are left with a brand new facility including a new football field with track accessories. I am not a political person at school, but I do take a huge interest in what my students are studying, when the have a test and being there for them when the are out at a sporting event. Go North!

People who go to North take advantage of all of the privlidges we are given. As part of one of the first graduating classes I was not always so positive. The facilities were definitely lacking, but the staff and materials were not. No school is perfect but I have now graduated from a major university magna cum laude and I give North a lot of credit for that. I hated how hard things were when I went there, but I have since realized that because of those challenges I was more than successful in college. I believe there is no other high school that can prepare you better. No, not every NOHS graduate will go on to do something great but they gave us the foundation. In fact I have said college was fairly easy and I have to give NOHS credit for preparing me as much as they did.

With 4 yrs experience, I certainly agree with comment of 'school and all of the administration is highly political . Favoritism is strong for children whose parents are 'connected'.' However, the educational opportunities have been positive and above normal for this area and surrounding counties. This is why I choose the school initially. But child is mature enough to recognize the 'politics' running rampant. It has become a struggle to even go in and suffer through another day of BS. The administration must lack something very important to let 'connected parents' continue to call the shots in so many various aspects - from the office to athletic program. I have seen many excellent teachers depart - rather it be from their own accord or being run off? The newest principal does an excellent job of communicating with the parents through email, OneCall & mailings. Maybe things will improve more with time?

This is a splendid school with outstanding success in all areas of achievement. The facility is splendid, the staff excellent and NOHS has a great future!

North Oldham High School has been a disappointment since its doors opened. Two of my children attended this school, one an overachiever, the other an underachiever, and both look back miserably on their experiences, or lack there of, at this school. The facility lacked in every aspect of a high school, the school had tremendous leadership issues, running off many excellant teachers. I must say however, the current Principal seems to be turning things around. However be aware, should you choose to send your child here, the school and all of the administration is highly political . Favoritism is strong for children whose parents are 'connected'. I regret North Oldham High School was a part of my chilrens life.

I'm not sure why North Oldham gets such a great reputation. My high school experience has certainly been, like my rating, below average. The facilities have been terrible, the cafeteria is carpeted and our 'theatre' is a rickety platform in our cafetorium. It disgusts me to look back on my experience and I can't wait to graduate. Seeing as we are learning in a construction site the place will probably be a nice place in a few years. Until then, I strongly suggest South Oldham or a private school.

The new principal is doing a great job and has taken a good school with some leadership issues and turned it into a great school!

I have a Freshman at the school and have lived in the area since it was opened. My son is having a good year with several advanced class offerings, a good athletic program and never sees any safety or discipline issues. I can't comment on principle yet but seems to be doing a fine job. From an academic standpoint this is easily the best HS in Oldham County.

This school has only been opened since fall 2003 and has had some difficulty getting organized. Hopefully with the new pricipal starting in May 2006 (this will be the 5th 'principal' and or 'interim principal' at the school)things will turn around at this school. Lack of leadership has been a major issue and added chaos to the normal issues of opening a new high school.
